From R to RNA-seq: A Practical Two-Day Bioinformatics Workshop for Beginners

Saturday, June 6th
10.00 – 16.00h
Sunday, June 7th
10.00 – 16.00h
Participants should bring their own laptop for hands-on sessions, equipped with at least 8 GB RAM and a 5 GHz Wi-Fi card. The following operating systems are supported: Windows 10 or newer, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS or newer, macOS 12 or newer

Trainers:

  • Miodrag Dragoj, Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”, University of Belgrade, Serbia
  • Pavle Erić, Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”, University of Belgrade, Serbia
  • Mirjana Novković, Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia
  • Ana Sarić, Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković”, University of Belgrade, Serbia

This two-day hands-on workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to R programming and its application in RNA-seq data analysis. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to run a complete RNA-seq analysis pipeline, from raw count matrices to biological interpretation.

No prior programming experience is required.

On Day 1, participants will learn the basics of R programming and RStudio, including data structures, data manipulation, and visualization using the Tidyverse packages dplyr and ggplot2.

On Day 2, participants will apply these skills to RNA-seq data from human cancer cell lines. The session will cover Bioconductor, differential gene expression analysis using DESeq2, visualization of results, and functional enrichment analysis with clusterProfiler.

Materials:
Quarto HTML workbooks will be provided for each session

Target audience:
Biologists and life scientists with little or no programming background who want to analyze their own transcriptomic data.
